Pinehurst Match-ups, Practice Round Pairings and some other good stuff!

Updated: Aug 28, 2019

Hey all,

The captains met on Saturday night and with many drinks flowing, managed to agree on some stuff to share with everyone. Here are some of the key decisions, along with some other trip updates:

Match Ups Decided

Based on last year's results, Trey and the Pink Team were given the choice to pick the one best-ball team match-up they wanted this year. He (mistakenly) took the 1&2 / 3&4 match-up against the Blue Team. With that match-up decided, the rest of the pairings have also now been determined and are posted for each of the rounds in the Game Details section of NewBirdGolf.com. Some of the player names are subject to change, only if player seeding within the teams change between now and the final handicap index lock down, but the team match-ups will remain the same. The 6th round pairings will be determined by the individual standings going into the final day.

Irish Rumble Team Winner

Because breakfasts and dinners are included in this year's trip, the captains decided that instead of having dinner bought for the winning team of the Irish Rumble round, the losing teams will pay $50 per man to the winning team. This means the winning team will win $150 each for the Irish Rumble round. This $50 is not included in the trip cost and will be collected by the winning team captain after the round.

2020 Trip Location

San Diego, CA was confirmed as the site for the 2020 trip. The tentative dates for that trip are Friday 6/5 - Tues 6/9. Estimated Cost will be $2000 and we will be playing Torrey Pines (Site of the 2021 US Open). I will provide more specifics when we conduct our onsite trip briefing @ Pinehurst.

Other Notes

Welcome Dane - Alex is no longer able to join us on the trip, but we were lucky enough to pivot and get Dane Sharp join us. Dane, welcome to the madness!

Tobacco Road Practice Round - it looks like everyone is going to make it for the Tobacco Road Practice Round, which is awesome! I have booked 4 tee times starting at 1pm for that Friday. The round will be $165 and you can pay when we check in with the pro shop that day. Here are the pairing for that round since these folks aren't currently scheduled to play together during the rest of the trip:

1:00 - Matt Yokley / Jason Powers / Mike Hibbs / Justin Thomas

1:10 - Dane Sharp / Jeremy Jones / Matt Trumbo / Danny Birdsall

1:20 - Dave Collie / Trey Liebenrood / Rob Craig / James Wharton

1:30 - Elliott Coffin / Chip Hudson / Bryan Gist / Ike Birdsall

Payment Reminder - just a reminder that the second payment of $400 is due on April 1st. The remaining $1100 will be paid onsite with a credit card.

Arrival Logistics - Since all of us are getting in at the same time that Friday morning (or the night before in some cases), logistics should be rather straight forward. I will send out specifics right before the trip.

Other Optional Round - I will come back to everyone if they want to play the afternoon of Sunday 6/2. Originally, the plan was to play Dormie Club, but they will be punching the greens. I have made 4 tee times starting at 2:25pm at Mid Pines, which is supposed to be awesome, but it's on the pricier end of $215. There are also Pinehurst courses #1, #3 and #5 that we aren't playing that you can play for $70. Or you can relax, hit the par 3 cradle or whatever. Like I said, it's too soon to sort all of this out, but something to put in your heads. If you do know now what you want to do and want to let me know, that's fine too.
